MT. POCONO, PA (May 24, 2015)
The Mt. Pocono Rotary celebrating its 20th year of sponsoring the Community with our Annual Aviation Day Fly In Breakfast on Sunday, May 24 from 8:00 am to 2:00 pm with this year’s major proceeds benefitting the Greg Moyer Defibrillator Fund. For the past 20 years the event has been held rain or shine at Pocono Mountains Airport on Sunday of Memorial Day Weekend.
Vern Moyer, Event Co-Chair, comments, “We will celebrate our 20th Anniversary by hosting a special Memorial Day Remembrance Ceremony that will include the Military Honor Guard and presenting of the colors.
In addition, there will be skydivers who will unfurl a giant American flag as they honor our veterans and active service personnel.”
Tickets for the all you can eat breakfast are $10.00 for adults and $6.00 for children 12 and under.
The day’s activities will include:
Moyer continues, “This is the 20 anniversary celebration of this event which was created to give people the chance to come to the airport, see the airplanes, experience helicopter and airplane rides, and generally find out about how to get youth involved with aviation. It has grown to be one of the Mt. Pocono Rotary’s largest annual fundraisers with over $100,000 raised in the last 20 years that was all distributed to non-profit and deserving causes throughout the community. This year we will contribute to the Greg Moyer Defibrillator Fund created by John and Rachel Moyer in memory of their son Greg who passed from sudden cardiac arrest at age 15 during a high school basketball game.”
The Greg Moyer Defibrillator Fund’s goal is to purchase and train in the use of AEDs. Since Greg’s death, the Fund has focused on raising money to purchase and place AEDs in schools, fire and police vehicles, and all public places where people gather.
In addition to free airplane rides for children ages 8-17 donated by volunteers for the Young Eagles EAA Program, airplane and helicopter rides can be purchased with income benefitting the charities. Those rides are donated by event sponsors Moyer Aviation, Hi-Tech Helicopters and Papillon Moyer Excavation.
Sponsors for the event include:
Moyer concludes, “We are still offering sponsorships and welcome area businesses to assist with raising money for these worthy causes.”
